How to change the VM Network adapter from E1000 to VMXNET3 // PowerCli

 -

in this post i will document for you how to change the NIC adapter type for a windows guest VM from E1000 to vmxnet3 without removing the old adapter with PowerCLI

before you start, it´s recommended to take a snapshot of the virtual machine

check if you have the last version installed of  VMWare tools if not please upgrade.

Also upgrade your VM compatibility to match the version of the ESX host.

start PowerCli with administrative right and connect to your vCenter

PowerCli Command:

Connect-VIserver “vCenter-name”

once connected give the following commands

Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

#confirm with Y

get-VM “your VM Name”

get-VM  “your VM Name” |get-Networkadapter

#check if the actual installed adapter is e1000

#now set the new adapter type

get-VM  “your VM Name” |get-Networkadapter |Set-Networkadapter -type vmxnet3

That´s it 😉
