Coredump fails on ESXi 6.x / Configuring a diagnostic coredump partition

 -

in my situation one of our ESXi host (VMware ESXi, 6.0.0, 4192238) fails to store the coredumps on the configured partition. So i must reconfigure /reactivate the diagnostic partition.

The ESXi is installed on USB Hypervisor.

to resolve the issue, activate SSH on the Host and open a console session.

login and run the esxcli command to check the configured partition “esxcli system coredump partition get

you should see a similar output

run the command “esxcli system coredump partition list” to list all available diagnostic partition.

you should have a similar output where the active state is set to false

to configure and activate the specific device run these commands

esxcli system coredump partition set –partition=”Partition_Name
esxcli system coredump partition set –enable true

validate that the diagnostic partition is now active “esxcli system coredump partition list

that´s it 😉 vurIT – be social
